PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing an electrode material by which an electrode having stable charge and discharge cycle characteristics and having a large charge-discharge capacity can be obtained.SOLUTION: A method for manufacturing an electrode material comprises the step of heating a polymer having a unit containing silicon and a unit containing no silicon. A method for manufacturing an electrode material comprises the step of heating a polymer having a unit containing silicon and a unit containing no silicon, and a composition containing a carbon material. In the method for manufacturing an electrode material, the unit containing silicon has a repeating unit including a silicon atom: and the unit containing no silicon has a repeating unit including no silicon atom.
