PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for implementing virtual bands concentration for self encrypting drives.SOLUTION: An apparatus 100 includes a storage device 102 and a host device 105. The storage device is configured to encrypt and decrypt user data during write and read operations, respectively. The host device 105 is communicatively coupled to the storage device 102. The host device 105 may be configured to execute the write and read operations by concentrating a first number of virtual bands into a second number of real bands, where the second number is smaller than the first number.
