The present invention relates to the technical field of mobile communications, and in particular to a method and apparatus for supporting a user equipment to execute a task, which are used to solve the problem that errors occur in the measurement and/or synchronization results of a user equipment. The method for supporting the user equipment to execute a task provided in the present invention comprises: a first network-side device acquires a duration of the working state of a cell, wherein the duration of the working state of the cell comprises a duration of the cell for sending a signal and/or a duration of the cell for not sending a signal; the first network-side device determines the time of the user equipment when performing measurement and/or synchronization, wherein the time of the user equipment when performing measurement is within the duration of a cell to be measured for sending a signal, and the time of the user equipment when performing synchronization is within the duration of a service cell for sending a signal. The present invention can not only guarantee the accuracy of the results of a UE when performing measurement and/or synchronization, but also can make a cell closed when there is no service.
