The purpose of the present invention is to provide: a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery wherein various battery characteristics have been improved; and a method for manufacturing this nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery. The present invention relates to a method for manufacturing a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery wherein a battery (1) is configured by housing a flattened electric power generating element (4), which is obtained by laminating a positive electrode plate (41) and a negative electrode plate (42) with a separator (43) being interposed therebetween, in an outer package (5) together with a nonaqueous electrolyte containing excess electrolyte and at least one electrolyte additive and hermetically sealing the outer package (5), which is formed of a laminated film. In this method for manufacturing a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery, a charging process of this battery (1) including at least the initial charging is carried out while applying a pressure to a flat surface of the electric power generating element from the outside of the outer package (5).
