The present invention addresses the problem of providing a polyimide precursor which can be cured into a film having excellent light permeability and has both a low birefringent property and a low linear thermal expansion property. A polyimide precursor having at least one residue selected from an acid dianhydride residue represented by formula (1), a diamine residue represented by formula (2) and a diamine residue represented by formula (3), wherein the acid dianhydride residue represented by formula (1) is contained in an amount of 50 mol% or more relative to the total amount of acid dianhydride residues contained in the polyimide precursor, the diamine residue represented by formula (2) is contained in an amount of 50 mol% or more relative to the total amount of the diamine residues contained in the polyimide precursor, and the diamine residue represented by formula (3) is contained in an amount of 15 mol% or less relative to the total amount of the diamine residues contained in the polyimide precursor.
