A method and apparatus is disclosed for extinguishing/fighting fires. A fire extinguishing liquid is Introduced Into a chamber via an inlet valve. Pressure of the liquid in the 5 chamber is increased. An exit valve Is opened when a parameter saisfies a predetermined condition. Extinguishing liquid and liquid vapour are ejected from the chamber via the exit valve. The ejected liquid and/or vapour Is directed at the fire, Fig. 13
