<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus that avoids an effect of a contact operation of a photoreceptor drum and an endless belt on a subsequent image sequence, while reducing FPOT. <P>SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus detects that an output signal from drive means for rotating and driving an image carrier or an endless belt changes to an output signal in the case where a load on the drive means has increased, in response to load change of the image carrier and the endless belt in a contact state, and measures actual operation time required for the contact based on the detection.
