[Also in Division F2] A piezo-electric generator device comprises a casing 1 in which is mounted a U-shaped spring 2 of flat metal strip, the upright arms 3, 4 of which carrying between their ends a grooved plunger 5. A lever 9 is mounted about a spindle 13, an oval bore being provided for this mounting so that the lever can execute a limited translational movement in a predetermined line. The lever is centralized in the housing by a bush mounted on the spindle, a spring which cooperates with the casing and the lever being coiled around an end of the bush to urge the lever in an anti-clockwise direction. The lever 9 has a long arm 12 for the manual operation of the device and a short arm 8, the short arm being provided with a metal insert 11 which cooperates with the groove in the plunger 5. The casing 1 also carries a stop 15. The plunger 5 in its rest position is in contact with a plate 22 of a piezo-electric crystal 23 housed in an insulating sleeve 36 in the casing. In the operation of the device the lever is rotated clockwise, the metal insert 11 acting as a detent in the groove 6 to draw the plunger away from the piezo-electric crystal 23. When the lever has rotated through a predetermined angle it abuts and then pivots about the stop 15, the lever executing its translational motion until the metal insert disengages from the groove 6. The plunger 5 is urged against the plate 22 causing the crystal to produce a high voltage which may be used to produce a spark to cause the ignition of a gas burner. |
