A weakly basic anion exchange resin which comprises the condensation product of (a) an epihalohydrin, (6) a polyalkylene polyamine and (c) a partially cross-linked copolymer of (1) a monomer selected from aliphatic and heterocyclic amines having a polymerizable <FORM:1079670/C3/1> group with (2) a cross-linking agent having at least two terminal <FORM:1079670/C3/2> groups, is obtained by preparing the partially cross-linked copolymer and condensing this copolymer with an epihalohydrin and a lower polyalkylene polyamine. The epihalohydrin is preferably epichlorohydrin, and the polyamine is preferably tetraethylene pentamine. Partially cross-linked copolymers exemplified are ethy pyridyl ethyl acrylate and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate, and 4-vinyl pyridine or 2-methyl 5-vinyl pyridine with divinyl benzene. |
