1,080,233. Electrotreating polycarbonate films. CELANESE CORPORATION OF AMERICA. Sept. 4, 1964 [Sept. 9, 1963], No. 36273/64. Heading B5B. [Also in Divisions B6 and G2] In order to improve printing receptivity the surface of a polycarbonate film or article is subjected to a corona discharge for a period of less than one second. In the described embodiment, film extruded from an apparatus comprising an extruder 10, conduit 12, accumulator 14, conduit 16, die 18 and withdrawal rollers 22, 24 is passed to a corona treating station T via a cooling roller 26 and a guide roller 28. The station T comprises an earthed roller 30 around which the film passes and an electrode 34 in the shape of a bar positioned close to the roller. High frequency, high voltage potential is applied to the electrode 34, the supply circuit consisting of a generator 44, voltage regulator 46 and a transformer 36. The treated film may be coated with a photosensitive compound.
