A method for displaying a user interface comprises: writing 1 software code for monitoring a number of slave devices in a network; defining at least one display template 2 with a number of data fields 3, 4, 5, 6 in the software code; compiling 7 the software code including the defined display template; and running the compiled software code. While running the compiled software code on the master device 8, the method further comprises: selecting a slave device 9 by a user from a list of slave devices connected to the network 10; loading and parsing a data file for the selected slave device; activating at least one of the data fields in the at least one display template depending on the parsed data file; reading data from the selected device; integrating this into the activated data fields of the display template; and displaying the at least one display template with the integrated data. The code may be written in an object oriented language using visualisation objects for displaying the template. A number of templates may be arranged in a tree structure (Figure 3) for displaying different details of a selected slave device. |
