The invention relates to the use of fungi or reproductive forms thereof, preferably of the Mucor circinelloides and Duddingtonia flagrans species, as biological control agents against different viable forms of parasites capable of infecting pets and livestock. The biological control agent can be administered in the form of an additive in animal feed and/or as an anti-parasitic composition to the animal and/or applied to the animal's faeces and/or the animal's environment. The invention also relates to a method for the preventing the transmission of parasitic diseases in pets and livestock, involving treating the animals, the animals' faeces or the animals' environment with said fungi or reproductive forms thereof or with the biological control agent of the invention.
