It is described a method and an arrangement for monitoring a mechanical load of at least one component (411) of a wind turbine (400), the method comprising: obtaining an acceleration signal (423) indicative of an acceleration of a portion (407) of the wind turbine; deriving a current load (429) of the component based on the acceleration signal (423).
