To suppress the thermal impact to a solenoid and to facilitate to secure the maintenance space for an ignition plug in a variable valve gear of an internal combustion engine for a saddle-ride type vehicle in which a press rod to which a pressing force is imparted from the solenoid attached to an engine body on the same side of the ignition plug is made to abut upon a joining pin that is slidably fit to first and second rocker arms so as to be capable of switching joining and joining releasing of the first and second rocker arms. The solenoid 107 is attached to the side wall of a head cover 28 and on the same side of the ignition plug 65 that is attached to the side wall of a cylinder head 27 by a plurality of fastening members 110 so as to avoid overlapping of a housing 108 of the solenoid 107 with the extension of the center axis CP of the ignition plug 65.
