摘要 557,246. Vulcanizing coated wire. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. June 9, 1942, No. 7881. Convention date, Jan. 11, 1941. [Class 70] In vulcanizing a coating on wire by passing the coated wire through a long vulcanizing chamber supplied with steam, provision is made to prevent the wire sagging into the pools of condensate formed in the chamber. The wire, after being coated by passage through an extrusion press, passes through a seal 12 into a vulcanizing chamber 11 supplied with steam through inlet pipes 16 and fitted with a liner consisting of perforated tubes 29 with external fins 30 and with flared ends 32 or with spiral springs laid end to end. The wire leaves through a second seal. The seals are formed with glands 19, 21 which receive water or gas under pressure, higher than that used in the vulcanizing chamber, passing from an inlet 24 to an outlet 26, and are of the kind described in U.S.A. Speculation 2,069,087.
