A hand held appliance such as a hairdryer comprises an inlet 40, an outlet (440, fig.2), and a filter 48. The inlet 40 comprises a plurality of apertures (42, fig.2) and the filter 48 extends across each of the plurality of apertures (42, fig.2). The inlet 40 may be formed in an outer wall 200 of the appliance, for example on the appliance handle 20. The apertures (42, fig.2) may extend at least partially along and around the outer wall 200. The outer wall 200 may be tubular. The filter 48 is preferably a foam block which may be cylindrical in shape. An end wall 244 may extend across the outer wall 200 at the end, and further apertures (46, fig.2) may be formed in the end wall 244. |
