In a variable valve gear for an internal combustion engine in which a connection pin capable of connecting first and second rocker arms to each other is slidably fitted in the two rocker arms arranged adjacent to each other, and a press rod having a pressing portion abutting on a pressed portion formed at one end of the connection pin is movably supported in a support wall provided on a cylinder head to face the first rocker arm from the opposite side from the second rocker arm, the connection pin and the press rod are caused to abut on each other, while an increase in stiffness of a support wall is enabled with a structure capable of avoiding upsizing of the cylinder head. An accommodating hole (113) in which the pressing portion (104a) of the press rod (104) abuts on the pressed portion (97a) of the connection pin (97) is formed in the interior of the first rocker arm (71) to permit a relative movement of the press rod (104) to rocking of the first locker arm (71).
