A toolholder assembly is provided with a pocket recess 12 in the toolholder body 10 in which an indexable cutting bit 14 is mounted on a shim seat 13 so that its upper face is located slightly above ledges 16 formed at the base of a chipbreaker pocket 15 which is of slightly larger dimensions than the cutting bit recess 14; the arrangement is such that in the assembled tool the chipbreaker 17 is clamped upon the cutting bit 14 but if the latter is removed it rests upon the ledges 16. A spring washer 29 located between the clamp element 23 and the clamping screw 25 maintains pressure on the chipbreaker when the clamping screw is slackened. A V- projection 22 on the clamping element 23 counteracts any tendency to rotation of the clamping element. A locating pin 27 passes loosely through the clamp element and projects into the chipbreaker 17. In a modification (Fig. 6, not shown) the cutting bit is square instead of triangular. In a further modification (Figs. 10-14, not shown) a V-projection extends transversely across the clamping element to prevent rotation during tightening of the clamp screw. |
