This heat-insulating refractory is characterized by being formed from an alumina or zirconia ceramic, containing no or 1% by weight or less of silica, and having a porosity of 65-85% and a compressive strength of 2 MPa. This heat-insulating refractory is preferably produced by: obtaining a molded body by press molding a kneaded material, which is obtained by kneading alumina particles or zirconia particles, a water-soluble polymer material, a polysaccharide, pore-forming particles that can be eliminated by firing and a liquid medium, with a pressure at which the pore-forming particles are not broken; and then firing the molded body under such conditions where the pore-forming particles are eliminated. |
