After filtration of solid/liquid mixtures on disc filters 5, the filter cakes are kept moist as the residual solid/liquid mixture is removed from tank 1 by compressed air from valve 14 by mutually overlapping fan like jets of recycled solid/liquid mixture issuing from orifices 15 in axial shaft 4. The cakes may also be extracted with solvent introduced into tank 1 and recycled for issuing as fan like jets through orifices 15. The filter cakes may then be removed by centrifugal force by rotating the disc filters. The liquid may be oil and the solid may be bleaching earth, oil cakes, catalysts or filtering aids.</p> |
