[Also in Division F2] The steering actuation system of a rudder propeller in which the propeller 10 is driven by an engine 11 via transmission 12, 13, 14 and carried by a steering casing 15 provided with a stabilizing fin 16, which casing may be telescopically extensible, and is turned about a vertical axis via coupling 24, shafts 23, 22, chains 20a, 20b and sprockets 19a, 19b actuated by steering wheels 17a, 17b, includes a reaction suppressing device 18a, 18b permitting unimpeded transmission of driving torque from the steering wheels to the propeller rudder but providing a friction lock preventing forces on the rudder propeller applying torque to the steering wheels. As shown in Fig. 2 each steering wheel 17 turns sprocket 19 via a spring 32 coiled in a stationary cylinder 36, turning of the wheel tightening the spring to reduce its outside diameter to allow it to rotate in the cylinder whereas a reverse rotary motion on the sprocket 19 unwinds the spring and causes it to bind on the cylinder wall. Means are provided for engaging the wheel 17 and holding or releasing the cylinder 36 (see Division F2). |
