1,113,366. Flat glass manufacture. PITTSBURGH PLATE GLASS CO. 8 March, 1967 [8 March, 1966], No. 10860/67. Heading C1M. In the manufacture of flat glass by forming a ribbon 14 of glass on a bath 10 of molten tin and in which a protective atmosphere is maintained over the bath 10, the take-out rolls 24, 26, which are subjected to a carry over of the atmosphere and are contacted by tin oxide containing dross on the glass, are constituted of an alloy containing by weight not more than 5% iron, at least 10% cobalt and at least 3% tungsten. Examples of suitable, known alloys are given, mostly with large amounts of cobalt, one largely nickel with only 11% cobalt, all with chromium, from 17À5-26À5%. The rolls were not affected by the dross or atmosphere and cleaning of the rolls not necessary.
|
