[Also in Division F2] A fluid logic element comprises a body having a passage with a port 2 provided with a Piezoelectric bender element 6 arranged to regulate the flow of fluid in accordance with electric potentials applied to the element. The element is provided with electrodes 7 and 8 and clamped as a cantilever to a plate 1 forming a cover for a fluid amplifier having an inlet 4, an outlet 3 and a vent 12. When the element 6 is deflected to open the port 2 the main jet flow is diverted from a port 3 to a vent 12. A shallow groove may be provided in the plate 1 beneath the element 6 to reduce the air forces opposing deflection of the element 6 and thus improve the frequency range of the device. Alternatively, a small jet 35, Fig. 5A, may be provided to assist bending of the element 6 and to increase the controlled air flow. The port 2 may be formed in a separate member in adjustably screwed engagement with the plate 1 and provided with a conical face for engagement by the element 6. In Fig. 6A an element 61 provides a differential output at ports 57 in accordance with applied electric potentials. The outputs are also controlled by a pair of control jets 53, 53'. The Piezo-electric elements may be of lead zirconate titanate.</p> |
