[Also in Division F2] A tool for insertion of a ring or sleeve into the end of an internally and externally helically convoluted flexible conduit 13 in which a ring or sleeve 12 is inserted into the end of the conduit a sufficient distance to permit the extremity of the conduit to be turned inwardly around the end of the ring or sleeve 12 into the interior thereof in the manner of a cuff, consists in a tool comprising a handle portion 1 having an externally threaded extension 2 leading to a frusto-conical part 3 for initially expanding the end of the conduit, the handle portion at its opposite end carrying a detachable spigot 4 shouldered at 6 to carry the ring or sleeve to be inserted in the conduit and also a detachable conduit-cutting ring 10 over which the expanded end of that part of the conduit projecting beyond the ring is forced, the cutting ring 10 having a cutting edge 11 to allow the unwanted part of the conduit to be severed. The spigot 4 has a threaded extremity 5 for entry into a threaded bore in the end of the handle part 1 and a cylindrical part 9 for supporting the cutting ring 10, the latter being clamped between the end of the handle 1 and a shoulder 6 on the spigot. A vice for assisting in the cutting off of the unwanted length of conduit, Fig. 5, comprises fixed and movable end plates 14, 17 connected by a lead screw 15, the movable plate being cut away to form a cradle-like support 18 which engages a groove 19 in a bush 20. The bush has a cylindrical boring 21 and is threaded on to the conduit 13 and pushed as far as it will go over the part of the conduit containing the ring or sleeve 12. The tool, conduit and associated bush are then inserted in the vice with the threaded extremity 2 of the tool engaging the end plate. The handle 16 is then turned to rotate the lead screw and draw the movable end plate 17 and its associated bush 20 towards the fixed plate 14 causing the bush to ride up that part of the conduit containing the ring or sleeve. Finally that part of the conduit surrounding the cutting ring 10 will be gripped between the cutting ring and bush causing the unwanted end 22 of the conduit to be cut cleanly along the cutting edge 11. |
