An absorbent article for feminine hygiene comprising an iron complexing agent selected from the group consisting of 2,2′-dipyridylamine, di-2-pyridyl ketone, o-phenanthroline, 2-furildioxime and any combinations thereof; wherein the absorbent article is a vaginal tampon; and wherein the iron complexing agent is capable of interacting with menses absorbed by the absorbent article to change the appearance of the menses.
