摘要 Systems and methods provide for detecting respiration disturbances and changes in respiration disturbances, preferably by detecting variability in one or more respiration parameters. Respiration rate variability is determined for a variety of diagnostic and therapeutic purposes, including disease/disorder detection, diagnosis, treatment, and therapy titration. Systems and methods provide for generating a footprint, such as a two- or three-dimensional histogram, representative of a patient's respiration parameter variability, and generating one or more indices representative of quantitative measurements of the footprint.

A system, comprising: a medical device comprising sensing circuitry; detection circuitry coupled to the sensing circuitry, the detection circuitry configured to detect a patient respiration parameter of a patient; and a processor coupled to the detection circuitry, the processor configured to generate a footprint comprising a mapping of a plurality of contour lines representative of the patient's respiration parameter variability using a respiration-modulated signal detected by the detection circuitry, generate one or more indices as quantitative measurements of the footprint, wherein a first one of the one or more indices is representative of a size of the footprint, analyze the footprint using the one or more indices to identify one or more patterns indicative of disordered breathing, assess the patient's health status based on the analysis of the footprint to identify the one or more disordered breathing patterns, and generate an output based on the assessment of the patient's health status.
