1. An image forming apparatus comprising:
first and second image forming units, each detachable from the image forming apparatus and each having a memory, wherein an image is formed by one of a first mode, in which the image is formed by using the first and second image forming units, and a second mode, in which the image is formed by using the first image forming unit without using the second image forming unit; and a control unit configured to control a writing operation of the memories, wherein the control unit controls the writing operation of the memory of the second image forming unit to write first information regarding usage of the first image forming unit into the memory of the second image forming unit in the second mode, and wherein the control unit decreases a frequency of writing the first information regarding usage of the first image forming unit into the memory of the second image forming unit in the second mode according to the first information regarding usage of the first image forming unit.
