摘要 The present disclosure relates to a data storage device having a hypervolume accessible by a plurality of servers operating on two or more data storage systems, a first physical volume, associated with the hypervolume, located at a first data storage system, and a second physical volume, associated with the hypervolume, located at a second storage system. The hypervolume directs input/output (I/O) from the servers to a primary physical volume comprising either the first or second physical volume, and the primary physical volume may be changed, transparently to the servers, to the other of the first or second physical volume. The present disclosure, in another embodiment, relates to a method for moving operation of a storage device from one data storage location to a second data storage location. A hypervolume is used to redirect input/output (I/O) from the a plurality of servers from the one physical volume to another.

A data storage system comprising: a first data storage center comprising two or more physical data storage devices and having a first volume defined from the two or more physical data storage devices of the first data storage center; a first server communicatively coupled with the first data storage center, the first data storage center receiving input/output (I/O) requests from the first server; a second data storage center comprising two or more physical data storage devices and having a second volume defined from the two or more physical data storage devices of the second data storage center; a second server communicatively coupled with the second data storage center, the second data storage center receiving I/O requests from the second server; and a hypervolume to which the first and second volumes are associated, and which directs I/O requests from the first and second servers, received via the first and second data storage centers, respectively, to a first one of the first and second volumes, designated as a primary volume; wherein data stored to the primary volume as a result of the I/O requests is replicated to the other of the first and second volumes, designated as the secondary volume; and wherein the designations of primary volume and secondary volume are automatically switched, by the data storage system via the hypervolume, between the first and second volumes, based on amounts of server I/O received via each of the data storage centers, so as to determine to which volume I/O requests are directed and to which volume replicated data is directed at any given time.
