Compositions comprise a stereoregular polyolefin and a substituted olefin polymer prepared by reacting a chlorinated olefin polymer with a trialkyl phosphite so as to replace at least some of the chlorine atoms by phosphonate ester groups. The substituted olefin polymer may be further reacted, before or after incorporation in the stereoregular polyolefin, with water or an amine, e.g. hydrazine, to provide enhanced dye affinity. The stereoregular polyolefin may be isotactic polypropylene, and the compositions may be made into fibres and films. In an example chlorinated isotactic polypropylene is treated with tributyl phosphite and subsequently with boiling hydrazine. The product is mixed with isotactic polypropylene which is melt spun into fibres which are dyed.ALSO:Articles such as fibres made of compositions comprising a stereoregular polyolefin, such as polypropylene, and a substituted olefin polymer prepared by reacting a chlorinated olefin with a trialkyl phosphite and further reacted with water or an amine, are dyed with basic or acid dyes. In an example fibres are spun from a mixture of isotactic polypropylene and chlorinated polypropylene which has been reacted with tributyl phosphite and subsequently with anhydrous hydrazine, and dyed with acid dyes. |
