An air filter for an I.C. engine intake (Fig. 1, not shown) comprises a clogging indicating device 20, located in the downstream space (18) enclosed by its filter element (16) and mounted in the wall of the filter casing 12, the device comprising a diaphragm 32 exposed to downstream pressure on one side through apertures 40, 42 and to atmospheric pressure on the other side through a hollow, coloured indicator 44 carried by the diaphragm. The weight of indicator 44 normally holds the diaphragm down (dotted lines), but increased pressure difference when element (16) clogs raises the diaphragm, so that indicator 44 projects from collar 24 to be visible outside casing 12. A filter 48 excludes dust from chamber 36.
