摘要 <p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a glass substrate for an information recording medium in which a smooth region on a major surface can be obtained wider compared to a conventional substrate.SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing a glass substrate for an information recording medium includes: a step of forming a compressive stress layer 12 having a depth of 0.5μm or more and 12μm or less on a first major surface 2, a second major surface 3, an inner circumference end face 4, and an outer circumference end face 6 of a glass substrate 1; and a step of subjecting the first major surface 2 and the second major surface 3 of the glass substrate 1 to a polishing treatment in a polishing amount corresponding to a thickness of 5μm or more and 40μm or less so as to completely remove the compressive stress layer 12 formed on the first major surface 2 and the second major surface 3, while leaving the compressive stress layer 12 only on the inner circumference end face 4 and the outer circumference end face 6.</p>
