The present invention relates to compounds and therapeutic agents that can be used to promote differentiation of immature myeloid cells. More particularly these compositions are securinine and partially reduced analogs of securinine that can be used as therapuetics to treat myeloproliferative disorders including acute myeloid leukemia. They also have utility as a myeloablative therapy.
