[Also in Divisions B3 and F2] In apparatus for the dynamic balancing of a wheel 42 (Fig. 4) of a vehicle in motion, a mass 5 is mounted between two gear-wheels 33, 34 (Fig. 3) rotatable relative to each other and to the wheel about the axis of rotation of said wheel, or an axis parallel thereto, radial slots 40 on the gear 33 engaging pins 41 in the mass 5 to allow only radial sliding movement therebetween, and a peg 9 on the mass 5 engaging an eccentric circular cam slot 10 in the gear 34 so that relative angular movement between the gear 33 and the wheel 42 moves the mass 5 angularly of the wheel, and relative angular movement between the gears 33, 34 moves the mass 5 radially of the wheel. Fig. 3 shows one of a set of balancing units mounted with equal spacing round a pitch circle of the wheel with the balancing masses 5 identically positioned relative to the axes of their respective units. The gears 33, 34, which may alternatively be internally toothed, have slightly different numbers of teeth, and mesh with identical pinions 35 on a shaft 36 carrying a star-wheel 37. When a solenoid-controlled striker 38 on the vehicle chassis intercepts the star-wheel at each revolution of the wheel, the gears 33, 34 are given a differential rotation causing a spiral movement of the mass 5. This is continued until a sensor 39 indicates a minimum out-ofbalance force, the driver then causing the striker 38 to be withdrawn. The star-wheel may be replaced by an air turbine.
