Provided are modified cellulose nanofibers that can easily be made into a composite with solvent-containing resin, and a resin composition containing these modified cellulose nanofibers. A method for producing modified cellulose nanofibers that simultaneously conducts a step for obtaining modified cellulose by reacting a resin having an anhydrous polybasic acid structure in the molecule with cellulose having hydroxyl groups, and a step for making the obtained modified cellulose extremely fine, the anhydrous polybasic acid structure being a cyclic anhydrous polybasic acid structure in which the carboxyl groups are dehydrocondensed in the molecule and a cyclic structure is formed. |
