Electronic EAS tag detection and method

An electronic circuit (300), apparatus and method for detecting and deactivating 5 electronic article surveillance ('EAS') tags (108), in which a coil (304) induces a current when subject to an electromagnetic field and also is used to transmit an electromagnetic tag signal. A tuning capacitor (324) is in electrical communication with the coil (304). The tuning capacitor (324) and the coil (304) establish a resonance for the transmission of the electromagnetic tag signal. A storage capacitor 10 (308) is in electrical communication with the coil (304). The storage capacitor (308) receives the induced current from the coil (304). The electronic circuit (300), apparatus and method can also include a first diode (306) for rectifying the induced current from the coil (304) and a processor (320) for determining an EAS tag status.
