Provided is a packaging machine in which a packaging material is sandwiched by sealing members and sealed, and in which a jam in a section to be sealed can be detected even when the mechanism used as a sealing-member drive source is a mechanism in which the force/moment applied to the packaging material by the drive source or positional information relating to the drive source cannot be directly understood from the information obtained from the drive source. In the packaging machine, a pair of sealing jaws (51) sandwich and seal the section to be sealed of a tubular film (Fc). The packaging machine includes: a first rotary shaft (53a), which supports one of the sealing jaws (51a), and a second rotary shaft (53b), which supports the other of the sealing jaws (51b); a rotary encoder (40); and a jamming detection unit. When the first rotary shaft and the second rotary shaft are approached towards or separated from each other, the rotary encoder measures the motion amount of the first rotary shaft relative to the second rotary shaft in the approaching/separating direction. The jamming detection unit detects whether there is a jam in the section to be sealed on the basis of the motion amount. |
