A medium conveying device is provided with: a conveying guide for setting a conveying space where a sheet medium should pass when the sheet medium is conveyed along the conveying direction; and outer regions, which are regions included among a guidance surface constituting a boundary face between the conveyance guide and a conveyance space, the outer regions being regions to which edges of the medium in the direction perpendicular to the conveying direction abut, the outer regions guiding the edges of the medium so as to be positioned inside the conveying space.
