Novel lactam derivatives of the formula <FORM:1107742/C2/1> wherein D represents a -CH2-CH2- or -CH = CH radical and R represents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl, aryl, bromoaryl, carboxylic acyl or aralkyl group, the R groups being the same or different, are obtained by the Beckmann rearrangement of the corresponding oximes, e.g. with phosphorus pentachloride. Therapeutic compositions having estrogenic properties and useful for promoting growth in meat-producing animals contain the above compounds as active ingredient. The composition may be in a form suitable for oral or parenteral application, e.g. as a constituent of an animal foodstuff. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 951,349 |
