A method for resetting an imaging cartridge chip comprises the following steps: executing a first resetting step (S201) when the imaging cartridge chip detects that data related to the amount of recording materials written by an imaging apparatus into the imaging cartridge chip reaches a pre-set threshold value; restoring data stored in the chip, except the data related to the amount of the recording materials, to be initial values; and after the imaging cartridge chip implements a serial number verification (S04, S204), executing a second resetting step (S205) to modify the data stored in the imaging cartridge chip and related to the amount of the recording materials into data indicating that the amount of materials is adequate. This stepwise resetting of data leads to an imaging cartridge being able to pass a validation verification by an imaging apparatus without changing a serial number during the process of resetting an imaging cartridge chip, thereby simplifying the process of resetting an imaging cartridge chip.
