a communications interface configured to receive a timing advance command control element over a radio interface from a network node; and an uplink (UL) transmission timing update unit configured, upon receipt of the timing advance command control element, to update UL transmission timing for cells in a timing advance (TA) group even when a TA timer for the associated TA group is not running.
