A method of characterising fragmentation of an explosive device (110) comprises receiving a image of a witness plate (100) that has been subject to impact by fragments from explosion of the device; warping the image to remove deformations of the plate (100); marking strike damage sites (120) caused by impact of the fragments; and recording the position and area of the strike damage sites (120).
