Apparatus for drying coated tape 17 comprises a rotatable drying wheel 5 formed of two groups of radial arms 12, 13 or spaced hubs 14 keyed to a rotary shaft, the arms consisting of channel elements within which are located rails of substantially U-section and having hooks 25 at the free ends of the arms. A magazine 7 provides a downwardly inclined travel path for spacer bars 8 which are adapted to be loaded on the drying wheel at an outlet 27 of the magazine, and a recycling assembly 9 for the bars comprises a re-entry ramp 10, and a raising ramp 11 formed by projections 47 on an endless travelling belt 46, ending at the upper portion of the magazine. In operation of the apparatus, one end of the tape is secured to a cross member 15 between a pair of the radial arms and rotation of the wheel causes winding-up of the tape, the hooks 25 engaging a bar 8 carried by hooks (not shown) at the magazine outlet 27 and on further rotation, rollers at each end of each bar engage in and slide down the rails within the arms under gravity towards the centre of the wheel until it abuts the hub or a preceding bar. Further movement of the bars when the arms are downwardly orientated, is prevented by tensioned straps 48, 49. The dried tape is removed by reversal of the direction of rotation of the wheel.</p> |
