A muffler (10) is a wound muffler formed by inserting a silencing device (20) into a main body part (11) formed in a tubular shape. The silencing device (20) is provided with an expansion part (30) that is expandable in the axial direction and is provided at an exhaust outlet-side pipe (24). In a state where the expansion part (30) of the silencing device (20) is contracted, the silencing device (20) is inserted into the main body (11) and then the expansion part (30) of the silencing device (20) is expanded and as a result, a downstream end part (24b) of the outlet-side pipe (24) extends outside of the main body part (11).
