In the preparation of yarn cops for a dyeing treatment, the tube on which each cop has been wound is ejected from the cop and replaced by a metal tube of perforate sheet material or spring wire. The wound cops placed in position on a step-wise rotating table are each in turn halted (a) at an ejecting station where a pneumatically operated tappet strikes the narrow end of the cop tube thereby forcing it from the cop and ejecting it downwardly through a passage in the table whence it is directed by a chute to a collector and then (b) at an inserting station where an overhead "hold-down device" clamps the cop on the turn-table and a pneumatic lifting ram pushes a fresh cop-tube through another passage in the table and into position in the axial passage of the cop. Fresh tubes are supplied from a continuously rotating magazine beneath the table, each tube being pushed into position on the ram by a feed tappet which is subjtct to the permissive control of a photobarrier which senses the appropriate position of the table. The cops, with their new tubes, are successively removed from the table by a deflector. |
