In a device for cutting coiled material the coils drop onto a mandrel 8, and are cut by one of two shears 22. The selected turn is moved into the cutters of the shears by one of two pivoted arms 2a, 2b which are pivotally mounted on carriages 5 and 4 respectively. The arms are pivoted intermediate their length at 3 and comprise a longer section which extends across the axis of the coiled material and a shorter section which carries a roller 17. When it is desired to cut the material the carriages are moved together by means of a common linkage actuated by a fluid cylinder 10. During the latter part of the travel of the carriages the rollers 17 engage stops 18 fixed to the frame of the device and the arms are rotated about their pivots. The dotted line positions show the limits of movement of the arm 2a. Springs 19 return the arms.</p> |
