<p>The present invention relates to a reliable method for detecting the development of an infection in humans after a trauma, in particular the development of sepsis, wherein the level of pancreatitis-associated protein (PAP) is determined in serum, and its level is indicative of the development of an infection, in particular of the development of sepsis at early stages of the disease, and is a decision making step for accurate treatment of said sepsis.
