<p>A laser target 800 which comprises a cube corner retroreflector 804, at least partially embedded within a body 802; a spherical contact element, rigidly fixed to the body 802; an identifying element 824 on the body, either a bar code or a RFID tag (Radio Frequency Identification), configured to store the sphere radius of the spherical contact element. In use the spherical contact element is placed on a workpiece surface, the retro-reflector is illuminated by a first light source and a measurement is made from the light source to the retroreflector, the measurement including a distance, a set of two angles, based on the reflected light. The identifying information is read by a bar code reader, RFID reader or a camera. The position of the workpiece surface is calculated based on the distance, two angles and the identifying information.</p> |
