A control device for reversing the rotational direction of a bi-directional motor rotor shaft 12, Fig. 3, comprises a first member, a hub 20, for mounting on the shaft for rotation therewith, a second member, a ratchet-wheel 30, rotatably mounted coaxially with the first member, coupling means, a spring 50, for coupling drive forces between the members, and stop means, a pawl 64, Fig. 9, operable to engage the second member to stop its rotation in each of the two opposing directions, the coupling means being sufficiently resilient to permit a degree of relative rotation between the members after the second member has stopped rotation in one direction and thereby store in the coupling means energy which ultimately rebounds the first member in the opposite direction. The device may be applied to a permanent magnet synchronous motor 10 utilized with an electric timer and comprises two separate parts, one, 18, including the hub, ratchet-wheel, and spring, and the other, the pawl and a control mechanism mounted on a plate 70. Such mechanism comprises an actuating knob (62), Fig. 8, whose cylindrical shank 82 mounts a beam 90 maintained by an over-centre spring 96 in a selected position, whereby one of the canted stop surfaces 76, 80 of the pawl 64 engage notches 35 of the wheel 30. |
