PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel cell system which activates (restores power generation characteristics of) a fuel cell with a simple structure.SOLUTION: The fuel cell system includes: a fuel cell stack 10 having an anode and a cathode; a cathode gas flow passage where air flows to the cathode; a cathode off gas flow passage where a cathode off gas flows from the cathode; a return flow passage which connects the cathode gas flow passage with the cathode off gas flow passage and returns the cathode off gas from the cathode off gas flow passage to the cathode gas flow passage; a return valve 35 provided at the return flow passage and opening when the cathode off gas is returned; a power controller 43 controlling a voltage of the fuel cell stack 10; and an ECU 50 controlling the return valve 35 and the power controller 43. The ECU 50 opens the return valve 35 to return the cathode off gas to the cathode gas flow passage and controls the power controller 43 to fluctuate a voltage of a single cell 11 when activating the fuel cell stack 10 during the system operation. |
