A container (10) for consumer goods comprises: an outer housing (12) comprising a first housing portion (20) pivotable about a first hinge line (A) and an opposed, second housing portion (21) pivotable about a second hinge line (B), opposed to the first hinge line, wherein the first and second housing portions are moveable relative to each other between a closed position and a removal position in which an access opening is provided between the housing portions; an inner shell (14) fixedly mounted within the outer housing (12); and a sliding element (16) for housing the consumer goods, wherein the sliding element (16) is mounted within the inner shell (14). The sliding element (16) is connected to the outer housing (12) such that movement of the first (20) and second (21) housing portions between the closed position and the removal position brings about sliding movement of the sliding element (16) relative to the inner shell (14).
